The Lonely Hearts Hotel

Heather O'Neil

There were many books I really enjoyed in 2017. A few that stand out are: Such Small Hands by Andrés Barba, Baseball Life Advice by Stacey May Fowles, Fever Dream by Samanta Schweblin,Things We Lost in the Fire by Mariana Enriquez, and Fugue States by Pasha Malla.  Another one I'm still thinking about is Heather O'Neill's beautiful and brilliant The Lonely Hearts Hotel. Told in O'Neill's unique style, it's an epic love story about Rose and Pierrot, two extraordinary orphans from Montreal  in the early 20th Century. I've enjoyed all of O'Neill's books for a variety of reasons, but this one is my favourite.
